Obituary for Helen Schlichtemeier
Helen Alice Schlichtemeier, 96, of Murray, died May 17, 2017 at her home. She was born to James and Alice (Karel) Budin in Clarkson, Nebraska on June 2, 1920. She graduated from Clarkson High School and attended Wayne State Teacher’s College. She taught in Pilger, Utica, and Nehawka.
On August 11, 1946 she married Robert Schlichtemeier at the Presbyterian Church in Clarkson, Nebraska. They farmed near Nehawka for 36 years, then moved to Murray in 1982. Helen was active in the Nehawka Methodist Church, where she was an organist for 38 years. She also enjoyed the piano, knitting, and crocheting. Robert and Helen celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary in 2000. Robert preceded Helen in death, as did her brothers, Robert Budin and Lloyd Budin.
Helen is survived by her sisters-in-law Elsie Jonas of Clarkson and LaVera Schlichtemeier of Murray; son and daughter-in-law Dr. William and Jeanette Schlichtemeier of Omaha; son and daughter-in-law Thomas and Terri Schlichtemeier of Murray; son John Schlichtemeier of Murray; grandchildren Amy and Scott Neumeister, Lisa and Douglas Downey, Tony and Jessica Schlichtemeier, Cory Schlichtemeier, Danielle and Nathan Buck; nine great-grandchildren; nephews, nieces, friends, and neighbors.
Interment will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Nehawka. Memorials to Nehawka Methodist Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.
